Student Parent Square Dance Permission slips

3rd- 6th GRADE STUDENT-PARENT SQUARE DANCE

During the month of January, students in grades 3-6 will be studying and practicing the American Folk Art tradition of square dancing. This square dance unit will culminate in a joint student-parent square dance on Thursday, February 23rd-- grade 3 from 5:00 to 5:45; grade 4 from 6:00 to 6:45; grade 5 and 6 from 7:00 to 7:45. Parents with students in different grade levels are not required to attend more than one performance, but may have their children perform at one dance. Please just let me know which performance they are going to attend, so on Thursday’s rehearsal they match up with a partner and square.

We are excited to announce that our caller for this presentation will be Mr. Lester Bradley from Thornton, NH. Mr. Bradley has been calling square dances all over NH for well over 20 years. In fact, Mr. Bradley was named part of the folk art group representing New Hampshire for the Smithsonian Institution. He called square dances to people from all around the country and world for two weeks during the summer of 1999 on the National Mall in Washington, D.C.

The students will be presenting 3 dances to the parents; Duck for the Oyster or Hinky Dinky Parlez-vous, Golden Slippers, and/or Crooked Stovepipe. After this, the audience will be invited to participate.

To keep with the tradition of an old time barn dance, the gymnasium will be decorated as a farm with artwork the students have made. Everyone is encouraged to dress with a bit of farm or western flair.

We are looking forward to a wonderful time. I sincerely hope you and your family can attend and enjoy the fun.

Attached below you will find a permission/attendance slip. I need to know who will be attending the dance, so that partners and squares can be set up for the performance. Please return by February 10th
